Importation of Methadone/Buprenorphine/Codeine/Morphine: possible

According to section I. 4. of the "Guidelines for Carrying of Personal Medicines With Travelers in to the United Arab Emirates" (http://www.moh.gov.ae/admincp/assetsmanager/Files/Pharmacusts/TRAVELLERS%20GUIDELINE.pdf )
all substances listed in the "List of Restricted and Controlled Drugs",

http://www.moh.gov.ae/admincp/assetsmanager/Files/Pharmacusts/Updated%20Controlled%20medical%20list%20seperated%202007.pdf
under CD (A) and CD (B) can be imported for personal use
for the duration of stay (e.g. buprenorphine is listed on page one, methadone on page 48).

The "Guidelines" clearly state [II. a) 1], that travelers must apply for an import permit at the Registration & Drug Control Department of the Ministry of Health. The application must be written in Englisch or Arabian. Since the "Guidelines" do not contain any info on which data to provide we would suggest to give the following details: Prescribing doctor/clinic, patient (name, home address, no. of passport), travel dates (intended/probable date of arrival and departure), prescribed medication. Giving an indication is not necessary. These data have to be confirmed by a local health authority. The application must be sent by airmail letter to the

Ministry of Health
United Arab Emirates
Registration & Drug Control Department
P.O. Box 1853
Dubai
United Arab Emirates

Applications via fax or email will NOT be accepted!

Our English/Arabian specimen form, available at  http://www.indro-online.de/englisharabian.pdf, might be useful.

In case the application will be accepted the traveler must carry with him the import permission issued by the Registration & Drug Control Department together with those documents specified in the "Guidelines" under II. a) 2, 3, and 4. On arrival all documents must be presented to a customs officer and will be stamped.
